We use a 6-pin lock, which has been tested to BSEN 1303:2005 classification to ensure it is a safer, more secure locking system. 28 MM SLOW-GROWN SPRUCE INTERLOCKING LOGS. This Log Cabin Style Workshop uses 28mm rectangular logs, rather than whole round logs you might find in the Yukon, but they interlock in just the same fashion to create an inherently sturdy and durable structure! If you are looking for a garden building that is strong and long-lasting, look no further!
We use slow-grown spruce for the walls, roof, and floor of our log cabin workshop as it is better all-round than pine! Spruce is less porous than Pine and so less likely to shrink, warp or split. We only select slowly grown timber from colder climates which also helps keep the timber more stable as the rings are densely packed. It is also a less resinous timber than Pine, which makes the possibility of sap ruining your clothes or furnishings much less likely.By pressure treating our floor bearers we protect the lowest part of the building from rot and insect infestation. This forces the treatment deep into the timber using a large pressure treatment tank. Due to this costly but effective process we can offer our customers a genuine 10 year guarantee against rot and insect infestation on the bearers with no need for the customer to re-treat this timber at any point during that time. This building is under 2.5m high.
Well, under permitted development rights buildings under 2.5m high can be placed as close as you want to a boundary eg. A fence line without planning permission.
Buildings that are over 2.5m high, however, need to be placed over 2m away from any boundary eg. A fence line, which means that with taller buildings you end up with a lot of space behind them.
If you want to find out more about permitted development rights see our planning guide. This shed comes with ventilation as standard.
We implemented this to help prevent condensation build up within the building. We use two pairs of plastic base plates, one round and one square.
The round external vents have chamfers to help direct water down away from the hole, the square inner vents have an integral fly screen to prevent insects from entering through the vent. The pair of vents allows a flow of air through your shed to help keep out musty smells. We do not offer installation. All our garden buildings have been designed for the DIY market and supplied with full pictorial instructions.
Despite the care we take in selecting the very best Timber available, it can still be unpredictable as its very nature is to be porous and swell up when it gets wet. Any wooden product will do this throughout its life, but there are a few things you can do to help limit this movement. We would recommend that you use an appropriate water repellent treatment. This helps minimise the amount of moisture that the timber can absorb and thus minimises the risk of any major movement.
(Please note: water repellent treatment is not the same as pressure treatment). 2 Plastic Vents are included which keep your timber building ventilated and to allow any moisture to evaporate. This is especially important if you plan to cover up your floorboards with something (double-check with an expert, that the material is suitable to do so), as moisture can become trapped between layers of non-breathable materials, leading to floors becoming rotten. Whether you opt to build your product yourself, dont be afraid to tighten the odd bolt here and there. Your product is a long term investment, so its only right to give it some love and care from time to.
Make sure that its properly treated before the rainy months, and that you make adjustments to doors and window frames when needed. We recommend a flat, level concrete base with an allowance of at least 100mm on each side. A 4m by 3m building would have a base of 4.2m by 3.2m. We only use full lengths of engineered precision cut and routed tongue and groove timber in our log cabins. These logs are planed, leaving you with a smooth finish and a more aesthetically pleasing and stronger product.Other companies are happy to provide you with rough offcuts, glued and finger-jointed together, creating a weakened cabin and an off-putting appearance. Our cabin models come in different sizes you can choose from. This allows us to ensure consistent quality of our products and precise cuts made by our machines. All of our products are delivered using our own fleet of vehicles, not sub-contractors.
